SSENSELESS: When Mischief Becomes Generative

Fresh off the success of [Labubufy](/blog/labubufy), we couldn't resist diving back into the world of fun, consumer-facing generative photo apps. This time, we set our sights on fashion—and created something gloriously absurd.

Meet SSENSELESS: a tongue-in-cheek mini-app that lets you try on any outfit, on anyone, instantly.

The Concept

If you've ever browsed SSENSE, the luxury e-commerce site known for its stark, editorial aesthetic, you know the vibe. Ultra-minimalist. Aggressively cool. The kind of website where a plain white t-shirt costs $400 and somehow that makes sense.

We thought: what if we took that exact energy and made it completely unhinged?

SSENSELESS mimics the SSENSE website down to the pixel—MSCHF-style design parody at its finest. Same sleek interface, same clinical presentation. Except instead of shopping for overpriced basics, you're swapping outfits with celebrities, friends, strangers, or yourself from three years ago when you had bangs.

How It Works

The experience is dead simple. Upload a photo (or snap one on the spot) of anyone—yourself, your roommate, that guy from high school who still wears cargo shorts. Then browse our growing library of outfits and tap to try them on.

Here's where it gets interesting: every outfit uploaded to SSENSELESS gets automatically converted into a layflat—a clean, flat representation of the clothing. That layflat then becomes available for anyone else to wear. The more people use the app, the bigger the wardrobe grows.

We seeded the library with some iconic looks to get things started. Lady Gaga's legendary meat dress? It's in there. Katy Perry's space-age astronaut suit from the Met Gala? Yep. AOC's "Tax the Rich" gown that launched a thousand think pieces? Absolutely.

What Surprised Us

Users generated over 25,000 outfits through the platform—trying on everything from haute couture to Halloween costumes. But what surprised us most wasn't the volume. It was what users wanted to do next.

We started hearing the same requests over and over: Can I archive my entire closet in here? Could this plug into actual checkout flows? People weren't just playing around; they were imagining SSENSELESS as a genuine utility for visualizing purchases before buying, or cataloging the clothes they already own.

From Screen to Gallery Wall

In December 2025, SSENSELESS made the leap from phones to physical space when we were featured at the Eastern Gallery during DTLA's Art Night. Watching gallery visitors try on the meat dress in real-time, projected for the crowd to see, confirmed something: the line between satire and utility is thinner than we expected.

There's something deeply satisfying about watching someone in a gallery setting try on the meat dress. AI art imitates life imitates... meat.

To celebrate the launch, we randomly selected five users to win a $100 gift card to spend on whatever they want. We suggested they use it on SSENSE to help cover the tariffs—someone's gotta keep that site afloat.

What's Next

SSENSELESS started as a playful experiment, a way to poke fun at fashion's self-seriousness while showcasing what generative AI can actually do. But the user feedback has us thinking bigger.

The line between "silly app" and "genuinely useful tool" is thinner than we expected. Whether SSENSELESS evolves into serious fashion-tech infrastructure or stays delightfully absurd, we're committed to building at that intersection.

In the meantime, the meat dress is waiting.
